If you’re eligible, you can get paid securely through carsales. It only takes a few easy steps during your ad set-up, Here’s how:
1. ID verification and linking your bank account
First, verify an ID document (either your Australian passport or driver licence). Then link your bank account to your carsales wallet. This lets buyers pay you through carsales — an easier, faster, and safer way to get paid.
2. Accepting an offer
When a buyer makes you an offer you can accept, decline or chat with the buyer to negotiate.
Right now, sellers can’t edit offers themselves. If you agree on a different price, ask the buyer to update the offer. We’ll let you know when it’s been changed so you can accept it.
3. Buyer transfers funds to their carsales wallet
Once an offer has been sent, the buyer can transfer funds to their carsales wallet. Just a heads-up: their bank may have daily transfer limits, so it could take a few hours — or even a few business days* — for the full amount to arrive.
4. Deposits (optional)
You can ask for a deposit if you’d like. Agree on the amount with the buyer and they can add it to their offer. The deposit will be held in the carsales wallet until all the funds are released at pick up. The deposit is fully refunded to the buyer if either party cancels the offer before the funds are released.
5. Track the funds
All funds (including any deposit) are held safely in a secure, third-party bank account.
You can check how much the buyer has added at any time by going to:
Account
Manage your ad
Get paid tab
We’ll also notify you when the buyer has finished adding funds.
How do you get paid at pick-up?
Here’s how it works:
The buyer taps Release funds.
You tap Accept funds.
If you don’t tap Accept within 15 minutes, no worries — just repeat the steps. Release. Accept.
The funds will land in your bank account — usually within seconds*. Make sure both you and the buyer confirm that the funds have arrived.
If there was a deposit, that gets released to you as well.
Then it’s time to swap keys and transfer the registration.
And remember: either you or the buyer can cancel the offer anytime before the funds are released. After the funds are released, carsales is not able to reverse the funds.
*Transfer times can be affected by a range of factors. See Annexure C of T&Cs for details.
