What are voice calls on the carsales app?
Pretty simple— buyers and sellers can now call or chat directly on the carsales app. Genius, right? No more unknown numbers. No switching platforms. Now you’ll always know who is calling and why.
Why you’ll love it
Missed calls, unknown numbers, and messages all over the place—ugh! This can seriously slow down your buying and selling process. But now—-drum roll —you can call or text directly on the carsales app, reducing delays and increasing your chances of a successful sale or purchase.
How do I know who’s calling?
Every call displays the buyer or seller’s name and the car at the centre of attention. So, you’ll always know who’s calling and the car’s details, before answering.
Do I need to share my personal phone number
That’s the beauty of calling on the carsales app—you don’t have to share your personal phone number with buyers or sellers. What you will see is the buyer or seller’s first name and the car details before picking up.
But, if you’re a seller, and you have your phone number on your ad, then buyers have access to it that way. Unless you buy a virtual carsales phone number that protects your privacy.
Do I need to switch between platforms?
These calls happen on the carsales app. No need to switch between different platforms to follow up on an enquiry. However, if you call the customer’s phone number you will be leaving the carsales app.
What about scams?
We’re glad you asked. Since these calls take place on the carsales app, the risk of scams and unwanted content is reduced. That should help you sleep easier.

As a seller, how do I use the voice call feature?
Our voice call feature is only available on the carsales app.
- When a buyer enquires about your car, you’ll be notified by email, push, or in-app notification (depending on how you’ve set up your notifications).
- Tap on Inbox (located in the nav bar at the bottom of your screen)
- Tap on the car enquiry message from the buyer
- Now you can call the buyer: In the conversation screen, tap the phone icon at the top right.
- Remember to enable microphone access. Tap ok, to allow microphone access.
- You can now start chatting or calling with the buyer.
As a buyer, how do I use this voice call feature?
- Our voice call feature is only available on the carsales app.
- Log into your carsales account.
- You can call a seller directly from the ad's details page by tapping the 'call' button.
Do I need to allow microphone access to make a voice call?
Yes, you do. Here’s how:
- When you tap the phone icon for the first time, a screen will pop up asking you to allow microphone access.
- Just hit OK to allow microphone access.
- If you deny microphone access, don’t worry! You can always enable it later in your device settings.
If you're using a Samsung phone, you will need to enable Full-Screen permissions and ensure your notifications are turned on, to receive calls through the carsales app.
Can I make a voice call before an enquiry is made?
- If you’re a buyer: Yes, you can call a seller before sending a message - Just tap the call button on the ad
- If you’re a seller: You can make a voice call after receiving an enquiry from the buyer.
This ensures that both parties understand the purpose of the call before the conversation begins.
What happens if I miss a call?
It’s all good. You can return the call directly on the app. Go to your inbox, find the message, then tap the phone icon to return the call.
We might also send you a message about the missed call via a push notification and/or an email.
Can I block unwanted calls?
Calls can only happen after an enquiry, helping to keep those unsolicited calls to a minimum. But, you’re the boss—you can decline or ignore any call. You can delete conversations that are no longer necessary.
And, if a conversation with a buyer or seller doesn’t feel right, you can easily report it to our friendly customer service team, they’re here to help you.
Will dealers be able to call me on the carsales app?
Yes, dealers can call you through the carsales app.
Can I use voice calls on desktop?
Currently, voice calls can only be made on the carsales app. Who knows what the future holds though. But that’s why you need the carsales app (if you don’t already have it!)
Is there a cost to use voice calls?
It’s totally free for private buyers and sellers!
Are calls recorded?
Yes, calls made through the carsales app are recorded so our team can assist if a dispute, safety concern, or issue is reported. When the call connects, both the buyer and seller will hear an automated message advising that the call will be recorded.
Note: To receive or make calls through the carsales app, you’ll need an active internet connection. If your device is offline, you may miss calls. For Android devices, ensure that your app notifications are turned on.
