How should I price my car?

Pricing your car can be challenging. But we've got some tools to help!

In this article, we'll provide some tips on how you can price your car competitively. 

 Check carsales listings for similar cars

See what other cars similar to yours are going for on carsales by searching for your make, model, badge and year. It's a good idea to also enter an odometer range similar to yours. You may also wish to refine your search by other details such as fuel type or transmission to get an idea of what other cars buyers might be comparing yours to.

Our Car Valuation page can provide you with an indication of what price you could get selling it yourself or trading it in. This information is based on RedBook data.

Using our exclusive seller tool 'Price Assist'

'PriceAssist' is exclusive to carsales sellers and gives you real-time insights on Australia's largest automotive marketplace to make pricing your car easy. 

PriceAssist tells you:

• How many cars, just like yours are for sale right now, or sold in the last 12 months
• How these cars compare to yours in price and Kms
• How long on average a car like yours takes to sell
• How to price your car to suit your ideal time to sell

Price Assist can be accessed after you've created your ad, via Manage ad > Your Ad Stats. (Just below your ad performance)

1. Select a time period (we recommend in the last 6 months)
2. Tick the body style, engine, transmission, and fuel type of your car. This will ensure the price comparison data will compare the same type of car. 
3. We recommend keeping the 'Sold or listed by' to both Private and Dealer sellers
4. It's always best to compare by your state, as every state can vary in demand and market value. 
5. It's not a bad idea to compare cars 1 year older and newer, as you may not find cars the same year as yours in the comparison, but you may find cars a year newer selling for a similar price of what you have listed your car at!
