We have been made aware that scammers are contacting people through various websites, and requesting they send a code they receive from carsales. If you have not requested any seller details, you should never provide a code to anyone, especially if you don't know them.
If a code from carsales is passed onto a scammer, you have given them access to use your details to obtain sellers phone numbers. This could result in your phone number being blocked in the carsales systems.
If you receive an SMS or email from someone requesting a carsales SMS code, please be cautious. If you are unsure please phone our Customer Care Team on 13 SALE (13 72 53) for assistance.
If you think you have seen a scam or have been scammed by a buyer or seller you can contact the Australian Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission:
- by phone on 1300 302 502; or
- by an online report by following the links on www.scamwatch.gov.au
- you can also report online fraud to Australian Government via the website http://www.acorn.gov.au/
